It can still make a lot of characters the official one cannot, and is more of a toolbox for making awesome balanced characters than a class. The Alternate Artificer isn't for everyone now that the official Artificer is out, but it merits mentioning. Most of the better versions of Warlord are imitations of this one. First time I really saw someone solve for the Warlord in 5e. This convinced me that Psion can be a standalone class, and that can use Psi Points.
